ST. CHARLES, Mich. – In its first three tournaments, the Sacred Heart University women's wrestling team has not looked like a first-year program. The Pioneers recorded a fourth-place finish on Sunday at the Lindenwood Open.

The 143-pound bracket featured a pair of Pioneers. Madison Sanquist lost her first match then came back to pin Nishika Smith of Umpqua CC in just 14 seconds. A 10-0 tech fall over Jessica Miller then a 5-3 decision versus Kelly Escamilla from Lindenwood put her in the semifinals. There she recorded a 10-0 tech fall over teammate Tays Pascual. Sandquist won her second tournament in as many weeks thanks to a forfeit in the finals.

In her first collegiate action, Pascual opened with two pins, beating Smith in just 45 seconds then topped Malia Cook-Washington from Indian Hills CC in 1:10. After her setback to Sandquist, she pinned Celeste Tellez of IHCC at the 4:48 mark to place third.

Another third-place showing was turned in by Jaclyn Smith at 170 pounds. Her day started with a 4-3 decision over Kai Poux from Fontbonne. Smith got into the semifinals by beating Lindenwood's Sierra Hall, 5-4. She was beaten by the eventual champion MaKenzie Cook, but came back to record a pin in 3:50 against Autumn Perez of UCC.

At 136 pounds, Savannah Vanse pinned the top seed Daisy Scholz of Iowa Western in just 1:21 of her first bout. She lost her next contest but came back top pin Umpqua CC's Kayli Acosta in 33 seconds. Vanse would drop her last two contests to take fourth.

The Pioneers will have their first dual meets on December 4 when the travel to Lock Haven to take on Eagles and New Jersey City University.
