WILMINGTON, Del.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team was back in action after a 12-day layoff with a road contest at La Salle on Saturday. The Pioneers fell to the Explorers, 72-44.

Sacred Heart took a 17-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, but La Salle outscored the Pioneers 20-6 in the second quarter and never looked back. The Explorers grew to their largest lead at 23 points midway through the third quarter. A pair of free throws helped La Salle grow to their largest lead of 55-32.
The Pioneers found themselves in foul and turnover trouble throughout the game that resulted in 42 points for the Explorers. La Salle forced 22 turnovers which resulted in 25 points. The Pioneers committed 24 fouls, sending the Explorers to score 17-of-21 (81.0%) from the charity stripe.
La Salle outshot Sacred Heart shooting 25-of-60 (41.7%) from the field compared to the Pioneers' who shot 18-of-57 (31.6%).
The Explorers scored 20 points off of 17 offensive rebounds.
Sonia Smith led the Pioneers with a double-figure scoring performance of 15 points.
