FAIRFIELD, Conn. — For the first time since the 2019-20 campaign, the Sacred Heart University fencing program will host the SHU Invitational on December 5 at 10 a.m. in the William H. Pitt Center.
The Red & White welcome seven teams including Northeast Fencing Conference opponent Vassar. Also stepping on the strip is Harvard, Princeton, Penn State, NJIT, Temple and NYU.
The men's team has had a strong season with only three losses for an 11-3 overall record and 4-3 in the league to tie for third.
Captain
Cameron Silver leads the epee squad with a 25-8 overall bout record, including 16 victories in eight undefeated rounds. First-year
Connor Kravit has a 22-12 bout record in the epee and also took the gold at the NEIFC Big One individual meet on November 7.
In the foil, sophomore
Lawrence Tan leads the charge with an explosive 30-6 bout record. Veteran
Tomas Koeck lends a helping hand in the squad with a 27-10 record with five of them coming off undefeated matchups.Â
Second-years
Vijay Ganta and
Domenic Bartolo dominate in the saber with 21-10 and 18-14 records.
The men's fencing team shutout, 27-0, University of New Hampshire in the first NFC Tournament on November 20.
During the Vassar Invitational on November 14, the epee and foil squads blanked Army West Point, while the foil trio also shutout Hunter.
Amongst NFC rivals, the women's team is tied for seventh with a 1-6 record and 4-10 overall.
In the first NFC Tournament, the women's team topped UNH 25-2 with an undefeated matchup in the foil.
Captain
Sophie Witek leads the saber squad with a 21-7 bout record where she only gave up two losses at the Vassar Invitational.
Both teams have a long break before heading back to the strips for a dual meet at the University of Pennsylvania on January 22.
