FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A close game at halftime slipped away from the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team at crosstown foe Fairfield University on Wednesday. The Pioneers lost 14-8 to the Stags.

Of Note:
Only down two after the intermission, Sacred Heart would only found the back of the net twice the rest of the way. Fairfield outscored the Pioneers, 6-2 in the second half.

SHU got off to a rocky start, allowing the Stags to go on a 6-0 run over the first 10 minutes of the game. 

The Pioneers responded by outscoring the hosts 6-2 the rest of the first half. Back-to-back goals by Trevor Johnson in the final four minutes of the second quarter closed the gap to 8-6 at the half. 

Jake Garb scored just a minute into the fourth quarter to get the Pioneers within 12-8, but that would be SHU's last score of the night.

The Stags had a 17-8 advantage in faceoffs and picked up 33 ground balls to the Pioneers' 22.
