Alex Watson leads with career-high 22 points

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Alex Watson's 22-point effort wasn't enough as the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team fell, 98-59, at Mount St. Mary's on Friday night.

Of Note:
The Mountaineers came out hot straight out the gate and never looked back when they jumped to an 8-0 lead. Sacred Heart was unable to find an answer as they shot just 27.6% (8-29) from the field and three-of-12 from three-point range in the first frame compared to Mount's 57.9 field goal percentage (22-38), 57.1% (8-14) from long distance. The Mountaineers went into the locker room with a 29-point cushion, 55-26. 
 
The Pioneers couldn't shake the double-digit deficit and the Mountaineers refused to let up. The home team continued to shoot over 50% from the field well into the second half. Mount finished the game shooting 40-of-69 from the field (58.0%). 
 
Sacred Heart is now 0-7 when outrebounded as the Mount pulled down 48, while SHU grabbed 25. Of Mount's 48 rebounds, 16 came from the offensive end of the floor which resulted in 23 second-chance points.  
 
Alex Watson came to play as he posted a career-high 22 points with a career-best five three-pointers. The graduate student netted 12 of SHU's 26 first-half points and finished off the game with two rebounds and an assist. 
 
Senior Aaron Clarke was the only other double-digit scorer with an added 14 points. Clarke led with a team-high four assists.
 
Dual-athlete Kenny Womack saw action for the first time this season and tallied two steals in five minutes of play.
