FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's basketball team dropped a 69-66 heartbreaking overtime loss to Saint Francis on Sunday.

Of Note
The game score changed 16 times throughout the contest. Saint Francis went on an 8-0 run to take a 59-55 lead with 33 seconds remaining. The Pioneers tied the game on back-to-back shots from Sonia Smith and Adrianne Hagood. The Red Flash's last-second three-point attempt missed the basket and sent the game into overtime.
 
Smith's layup with 1:37 remaining in the extra frame gave the Pioneers a 66-65 lead. Unfortunately, that would be SHU's last points of the game as SFU scored the final five points. Olivia Tucker's tying three-pointer at the buzzer missed the mark.
 
Three Pioneers scored in double-figures for the third-straight game, led by Tucker's season-high 18 points. Sonia Smith notched her first career double-double with 15 points and a career-high 11 assists. The junior guard also grabbed five rebounds and led the team with five steals. Hagood finished with 14 points and is now tied for ninth in the SHU record books in career scoring with 1,349 points. Asia McCray recorded two career highs with 11 rebounds and three blocked shots.
 
The Red Flash had a decided margin at the free throw line, hitting 19-of-32 compared to 9-of-10 by the Pioneers. SFU also had decided advantage on the boards (46-36) and points in the paint (38-28).
