SHELTON, Conn. — Paige McNeil's goal breaks the tie in the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey, 3-2, triumph over NEWHA competitor Post in its first home game of 2022 on Monday.
The sophomore drilled the puck into the back of the net following a blocked shot at 11:07 in the third. McNeil recorded back-to-back goals in the series and moves to second amongst the Pioneers with nine goals and is tied for third in the conference.
The Red & White improved to 12-10-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the league to snatch third after being tied with Saint Anselm. PU fell to 5-18-0 and 2-10-0.
One minute and 10 seconds into the opening period,
Katie Keenan skated past the visiting defenders to tally the first goal of the game. Keenan leads newcomers on the team in goals with five and is tied for 14th amongst NEWHA first-years.
Post responded with a goal of its own halfway through the first then extended its lead 16 seconds into the second period to put the team up, 2-1.
Nicole Guidi took advantage of the powerplay with nine minutes remaining in the last period to knot the game at two-all. Co-captains

Kelly Solak came in clutch to set up the senior's game-tying shot.
In the second start of her career,
Carly Greene denied 17 shots for a 9.29 save percentage. The first-year has a 2-0 win-loss record.
Sacred Heart remains at home for game one of the Long Island series on February 4 at 4 p.m.
