Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Yale 15-4 in Season Opener

Four Pioneers score one goal each

NEW HAVEN, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team fell in its season opener at Yale 15-4 on Saturday.

Of Note:
Yale tallied the first goal of the game before an hour delay due to a snow squal. Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs tallied two more goals to take a 3-0 lead in the first quarter.
 
With 6:21 left in the first half, Emma Kittredge flicked the ball into the net to get Sacred Heart on the board. The Pioneers would go into the half trailing, 9-1.
 
Lydia Werlau scored on a free position at the start of the third quarter before Yale notched two-straight goals to extend the lead, 11-2. Mikala Eacrett chipped in another goal at the 2:38 mark, but the Bulldogs extended their cushion to 10 just two minutes after, 13-3.
 
Sydney Colesworthy posted the game's final goal off the assist from Kelly Nolan in the last five minutes of the contest.
 
Yale outshot Sacred Heart, 44-13, and, 28-9, on goal. The Bulldogs also picked up 25 ground balls compared to the Pioneers' 15.
 
Natalie Cook caused a career-high three turnovers and matched her career-high of six ground balls. Lisa Martin, who made her first career start as a goalie, had 13 saves on the day.
