Men's Tennis Unable to Outlast BU

Pioneers fall to 3-11 on the season

TRUMBULL, Conn. – In non-conference action, the Sacred Heart University men's tennis team dropped a tight 4-3 decision against Boston University on Sunday night.

Both teams secured doubles win and the overall point came down to Matyas Vencl and Matthew Nagel in the second spot. The duo fought neck in neck with BU's Jonah Dickson and Dion Loutas as the game came down to a tiebreaker. Vencl and Nagel were unable to hold on as the Terriers took the doubles point with a 7-6(3) win at second doubles.

Singles play was just as competitive as doubles. Sophomore Lefteri Apostolou won his second-straight match at the top spot with a straight-set victory, 6-2 and 7-5. Kevin Chao and Antoine Hernandez won in three sets at third and fourth singles to even the score at three-all. The match came down to senior Ayman Khan at fifth singles. After dropping set one, Khan came back and won the tiebreak to take set two, 7-6(5). However, the senior fell, 6-4, in the third set to give BU the win.

The Pioneers hit the road on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Coast Guard.
