Of Note:
The Red & White took charge in the first two innings with a pair of runs. Robert Farruggio kickstarted the scoring with a single up the middle to bring home Joe Emerson in the first inning. In the next inning, Dante D'amore tallied a run off the hit from Tyler Galltetti to put SHU up, 2-0.
The Wildcats answered with a run in the bottom of the second and kept the runs coming with three more in the fifth.
The Pioneers tried to rally back in the eighth inning with a one-run margin. George Sutherland ignited the comeback attempt with a single through the right side and allowed Tim McGuire to cross the plate. For his second RBI of the day, Farruggio grounded out to shortstop for a run to bring home Justin Jordan.
SHU had the chance to knot the game at five with two left on base in the ninth. Pinch hitter Michael Hernandez singled up the middle to initiate the opportunity. Off a wild pitch, McGuire reached first and pinch runner Mark Smith advanced to second but the Pioneers stopped short at the next at bat.
Tyler Briggs came in as relief to get the final out of the fifth inning. Briggs put in 3.1 innings of work with one hit and struck out four batters. The right-hander cleaned up the bases when he picked off a Wildcat to first baseman D'amore in the sixth. After a fielding error, Briggs struck out a swinging Wildcat to get out the eighth inning.
