Bulldogs Out Run Pioneers, 13-5

The Pioneers had three batters with multiple hits.

SMITHFIELD, RI. — The Sacred Heart University baseball team dropped a 13-5 contest to Bryant after a tough six-run second inning on Saturday.

Of Note:
Joey Skarad and Tim McGuire accounted for four runs as they each crossed home twice. 

In the third inning, lead off hitter Justin Jordan doubled down the left field line to bring home McGuire and Joe Emerson. McGuire recorded his second run of the day in the ninth inning off a sacrifice fly to centerfield off the bat of Ryan Donnelly.

With two in scoring position, Sam Mongelli grounded out to shortstop and allowed Skarad to cross the plate in the third inning. Four frames later, Skarad's leadoff triple put him scoring position for Jordan's single up the middle.

Bryant took the lead early with a run in the first, followed by six more runs in the following frame to put the home team up 7-0. The Bulldogs extended their lead with six more runs across the third, fourth and seventh innings.

Despite stranding eight Bulldogs on the bags, Bryant outhit SHU 14-8.

For his 12th multi-hit game this season, Jordan went three for four with a season-high three RBIs. Skarad landed on base in all four at bats after hitting two and walking twice for a pair of runs.

In back-to-back games, Jake McDowell had a season-high five strikeouts after 4.2 innings of work.
