SHU dropped the second game in extra innings

FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Sacred Heart University softball team dropped two more games this afternoon falling to Mount St. Mary's 8-0 and 6-5.

  • Both sides were held scoreless heading into the third inning when Kaia Bonshock gave the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead with a home run to center field.
  • Mount St. Mary's added to their lead in the fifth inning off an RBI bunt and error at the plate followed by an RBI double to right center to take a 7-0 lead.
  • The Mountaineers secured the shutout in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by Mariah Godde to take the 8-0 lead.
  • SHU was held to just three hits in the game.

  • The Mountaineers took an early 1-0 in the top of the first inning off an RBI single to right field.
  • The Pioneers answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Grace Saad ripped an RBI double to right center scoring in Amy Petrovich to even the score at 1-1.
  • Alyssa Gonzalez then launched her eighth home run of the year scoring in two runs to give the Pioneers the 3-1 lead.
  • The Mountaineers countered in the top of the third inning as they tacked on two runs to even the score at 3-3 off an RBI single and a stolen base home.
  • Mount St. Mary's piled on runs in the fifth inning off an RBI double to left center followed by an RBI single to right field to give the Mountaineers a 5-3 lead.
  • SHU responded back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Emily Carroll tallied a sacrifice fly to center field scoring in Jenna Mowad followed by an RBI double by Maighread Scafariello to even the score up at 5-5.
  • After neither sides tallied runs in regulation innings, the game went into extras where it wasn't until the top of the 10th inning that an RBI triple to right center for the Mountaineers gave them the 6-5 victory.
