Sacred Heart Completes 13-7 Comeback Win Against CCSU

Pioneers hold Blue Devils scoreless in second half.

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team turned up the defense on Saturday on its way to victory over Central Connecticut State. The Pioneers shutout the Blue Devils in the second half on their way to the 13-7 victory.

Of Note
After CCSU scored at the 9:49 mark of the second half, Sacred Heart would not give up a goal the rest of the game. SHU limited the Blue Devils to just four shots on goal the remainder of the game with goalkeeper Bella Beaton turning all four away to get the victory.
 
Both teams traded goals in the first five minutes of the first quarter before Emma Kittredge scored back-to-back to give Sacred Heart the lead at the 9:15 mark. CCSU tallied three goals before Grace Reinold flipped in the ball with 1:00 minute left for the one-point cushion going into the second. 
 
Reinold tied the game on the free position to start the second quarter before the Blue Devils responded with two goals to take the lead, 7-5. Lydia Werlau and Maci Black notched a goal each to tie the game, 7-7, at all-seven going into halftime. 
 
Five of Sacred Heart's six second-half goals came from Werlau and Sydney Colesworth. Reinold, Werlau and Colesworthy scored three goals each. Werlau matched her career-high three caused turnovers. 
 
The Pioneers outshot the Blue Devils, 40-15. SHU forced CCSU into 14 turnovers and had a 13-7 advantage in ground balls.
