Baseball Captures 16-4 Victory Against Merrimack on Senior Day

The Pioneers recorded an all-time high of 23 hits in a single season game.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Justin Jordan's single to third base brought home Dante D'amore in the third inning and led to the Sacred Heart University baseball's teams' 16-4 win against Merrimack on Sunday. With the game knotted at four apiece, the senior's RBI snapped the tie to put the Pioneers in the win column on Senior Day.

Of Note:

The Red & White outslugged the Warriors 23-8 for an all-time high in a single game.

Jordan landed on base in all four at bats after he hit three of four with a walk. The Darien, Conn. native added a pair of runs and brought one Pioneer home.

Robert Farruggio went three of six with four RBIs and a run, while Justin Levito also brining in four runs after hitting two for three. 

Ryan Donnelly and Steven Schoen contributed to the historical game with three hits each for a combined two RBIs and a run.

The teams battled through the opening two innings with two runs in each to keep the score even before a four-run third pushed the Pioneers past Merrimack.

Two batters after D'amore's eventual game-winning runin the third inning, George Sutherland grew the lead by two as Jordan and Justin Levitio touched home.

Sacred Heart remained hot with eight more runs across the fourth, fifth and eighth innings including a failed pickoff attempt of Schoen at first bast which allowed Farruggio to capitalize on the distraction in the fifth.
