FAIRFIELD, Conn. — On the mound for the Sacred Heart University baseball team,
David Aufiero led the Pioneers through six scoreless innings in the 12-5 win against Northeast Conference opponent Mount St. Mary's on Friday. The right-hander only allowed five Mountaineers on base with three strikeouts in his longest career stint on the mound.

George Sutherland's double to right-center brought
Justin Jordan home in the opening inning and ignited the Pioneers' offense. In the next at bat, designated hitter
Robert Farruggio hit a two-run dinger out of Veteran's Memorial Park to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead.
Sacred Heart grew its lead by five across the third and sixth inning before the Mountaineers broke the shutout in the seventh.
In the third inning, the pitcher overthrew an attempt to pick-off Sutherland at first. The Pioneers capitalized on the mistake as Sutherland advanced to second and
Sam Mongelli crossed the plate. Sutherland was brought home by
Steven Schoen two batters later.
Mongelli and Jordan both recorded their second run of the day in the sixth inning after
Justin Levito came home off Mongelli's single to left field.
The Mount's five-run rally in the top of the seventh was capped off by a grand slam by Efrain Correa Jr.'s first at bat as a pinch hitter.
For his first triple this season, Jordan brought home
Joey Skarad in the bottom of the seventh.
Sutherland, Farruggio and Schoen grew the lead by three in the following frame.
The Pioneers outslugged Mount St. Mary's 20-9 for the most hits against the Mountaineers in matchup history.
Sutherland led the team after hitting four of five with a trio of runs and brought in a pair. Schoen also went four for five with a run and two RBIs.
