The energy shifted in the second half and the Pioneers held most of the possessions but was unable to capitalize.

Sacred Heart saw its closest opportunity within the last minute of the game when a yellow card was given to a Shark right outside the box. Matthias Dick then sent a free kick that was just saved before sailing into the bottom-right corner. Giovanni Amato also got a good chance off a rebound, but he caught the post.

LIU outshot Sacred Heart 14-9 and 8-2 on goal. LIU had seven corners to SHU's two. The game was very physical with a total of 26 fouls and five yellow cards.

Keeper Hammersley tied his season high with seven saves.

Sacred Heart made history this season by punching its first-ever ticket to the NEC Championship. The team finished fourth in NEC regular season play, and made today's final by claiming two penalty-kick wins in the first two rounds.
