Pioneers Clinch Fourth Seed in NEC Tournament with Draw at Le Moyne

As the fourth seed, SHU will host first-round game Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team finished their regular season with a 1-1 draw. David Garcia Gallego scores the lone goal for the Pioneers. With the tie, SHU clinched the fourth seed heading into the Northeast Conference (NEC Championship Tournament, which means they will host a first-round game Sunday.

Of Note:
The Pioneers opened scoring in the 11th minute when Garcia Gallego used his left foot to curve the ball into the net when it was deflected into the goal by a Dolphin.
 
Soon after, Le Moyne saw multiple opportunities with a free kick and a corner. The Dolphins had a shooting frenzy with five shots in a one-minute time frame, but they could not put one past keeper, Andrew Hammersley.
 
Le Moyne scored second in the 31st minute when a through ball from Jack Goodrich was tipped into the low-left corner of the net by Ziad Abdul-Malak.
 
The second half of the game was spent mostly in the midfield and did not pick up until the last 10 minutes when Sacred Heart had five shots to Le Moyne's one.
 
Hammersley was outstanding this afternoon, allowing one goal while capturing four saves and a handful of blocks.
 
The Dolphins out shot the Pioneers 11-to-9 and 5-to-4 on goal. Sacred Heart had three corner kicks to Le Moyne's two.
 
Up Next:
The Pioneers host the fifth seed on Sunday, November 5th, at Park Ave Field for the first round of the NEC Championship. Time is TBD.
