Men's Basketball Hosts New Hampshire on Thursday

The Pioneers return home for two straight games

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team returns home on Thursday, November 30 to take on the University of New Hampshire in the William H. Pitt Center at 7:00 pm. SHU is back in action after going 1-1 last week with a home win over Binghamton and a road setback at Saint Joseph's.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Sacred Heart fell 64-55 on the road at Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon.
  • Nico Galette led three players in double figures with 16 points, he also tallied six rebounds, two assists, and three steals.
  • Alex Sobel was second on the team in points with 13 and had a team-high seven rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.  
  • Joey Reilly was the third player in double figures with 12 points, he also added three steals.
  • Galette was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
OPENING TIP:
  • SHU and New Hampshire meet for the sixth time. The Pioneers hold a 5-0 advantage over UNH in the series with the most recent win for SHU coming last season, 66-61 on the road at UNH. Prior to that, the teams had not met since the 2014-15 season.
  • Sacred Heart returns home after falling 64-55 at Saint Joe's on Sunday. Nico Galette led three players in double figures.
  • Four Pioneers are averaging in double figures: Galette (14.0), Tanner Thomas (13.1), Joey Reilly (10.6), and Raheem Solomon(10.0). Alex Sobel leads the team in rebounds (8.0) and Galette is second with 6.7 rpg.
  • Galette was named this week's NEC Player of the Week and Thomas collected the honor the week before.
  • Sobel has cracked the top-10 in blocks nationally with 19. (as of 11/29)
  • The team voted Galette, Reilly, and Kyle McGee to be captains of the 2023-24 squad. 
  • The Pios were selected first in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Galette and Reilly were selected to the All-NEC preseason team. Both Galette and Reilly earned All-NEC first and third-team honors last season, respectively.
