FAIRFIELD, Conn.-- The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference play with a 92-63 victory over Mercy University on Saturday afternoon. Five Pioneers scored in double figures as SHU picked up its second straight win.Â

Alex Sobel tallied his third double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 17 rebounds, adding a team-high six assists and four blocks.
Aidan Carpenter scored a career-high 19 points to lead SHU, knocking down five three-pointers and going 7-for-12 from the field.
Kyle McGee's 11 points marked his third straight game in double figures.

Mercy trailed by three, 20-17, at 10:26 in the first half, but a three-pointer by Carpenter sparked a 19-0 run for Sacred Heart, capped by a layup from
Brendan McGuire to give the Pioneers a 39-17 advantage with 5:14 left in the opening half. SHU led in double digits for the rest of the way, holding a 46-29 edge at the halftime break.

Nico Galette made a jumper to open the second half as SHU put away the next nine points to take a 24-point lead at 17:08 in the second half. Back-to-back treys from
Mike Sixsmith and Carpenter gave SHU a 30-point advantage at 9:23. From there, SHU took the largest lead of the game at 6:34 off a Galette bucket to lift the Pioneers ahead, 87-50. Chris Nana kept Mercy off the board in the final minute, as he picked up two blocks in just his second appearance as a Pioneer.
