TRUMBULL, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's tennis team secured its first win of the season against Northeast Conference foe LIU, 4-3, on Friday.
 
The Pioneers took the team point in doubles with back-to-back victories from the teams of Matyas Vencl and Darius Eftekhar (6-4) and Lefteri Apostolou and Alberto Mello (6-4).
 
In singles, Vencl and Arya Alla extended SHU's lead, 3-1, with straight-set wins against Sergio Ferandez Romera and Gui Medeiros.
 
Antoine Hernandez sealed the Pioneers' victory, defeating Danila Ishchanka 6-4, 7-6, and 7-5 in the tiebreaker.  
 
SHU is 1-0 to start conference play.
 
Up next, the Pioneers host Lafayette for a non-conference match on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
