Pioneers Host Merrimack on Saturday

SHU will play on CBS Sports against Merrimack

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Hot off a 94-86 overtime victory on Thursday night, the Sacred Heart men's basketball team is back in the Pitt Center on Saturday afternoon to take on Merrimack in a big Northeast Conference game at 2:00 PM, nationally televised on CBS Sports. The Pioneers are 14-14 overall and 7-6 in the NEC, while the Warriors are 12-16 overall and 9-4 in conference play.

Opening Tip: 
  • Sacred Heart and Merrimack meet for the second time this season in Northeast Conference action. The Pioneers won 59-55 on the road on January 5th. In the victory, Tanner Thomas had his first career double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Joey Reilly and Bryce Johnson both scored 10 points for the Pioneers.
  • SHU is coming off a huge overtime NEC win over Fairleigh Dickinson from Thursday night. The Pioneers won 94-86 in overtime. Nico Galette scored a career-high 27 points, Kenneth Womack had a career game with 15 points and eight assists, Johnson recorded his ninth double-double of the season, and five players scored in double figures.
  • Galette has scored in double figures in every game but one this season (Merrimack), as he leads the team with 16.3 points per game. Reilly is second on the team in scoring (11.5), and Raheem Solomon is third (11.1).
  • Johnson has nine double-doubles this season, Galette has four, and Tanner Thomas has one. Johnson leads the team in rebounds, 7.9 per game, and Galette is second with 7.0.
  • Johnson leads the NEC in defensive rebounds with 178 and is fifth overall in the NEC in rebounds with 227, Galette is right behind at seventh overall with 196.
  • Womack, a starter on the SHU football team, has been coming in off the bench recently for SHU basketball this season, averaging 11.1 minutes per game.
  • This season, Galette earned NEC Player of the Week once and has been an eight-time Prime Performer.
  • Head Coach Anthony Latina is in his 10th season as the head coach of Sacred Heart.
  • Galette was named to the All-NEC preseason team.
  • Sacred Heart was tabbed second in the NEC preseason poll.
