Pioneers Drop Last Regular Season Home Game

Four players scored in double figures

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart men's basketball team dropped its last regular season home game, 70-63, to St. Francis Brooklyn in Northeast Conference action on Thursday evening. The Pioneers had four players score in double figures in the loss.

Of Note:
Sacred Heart used a late run, climbing its way out of a double-digit, second-half deficit. The Pioneers used a stretch of five made free-throws to bring themselves within nine, 62-53, with 2:35 left in the game. Thanks to back-to-back layups from Thomas and Galette, Sacred Heart was within seven, 64-57, with 1:35 to go. However, St. Francis was able to go up by 11 in the final 45 seconds. Reilly and Johnson answered as they knocked down three-pointers in the final 40 seconds, but St. Francis held on for the 70-63 final.

St. Francis had a dominant opening half over the Pioneers. The Terriers shot eight for 12 from three-point range and held a double-digit lead throughout the half. Sacred Heart trailed at the half, 47-29.

Before the game, the Pioneers honored their two senior student managers, Jack Kurnik and Tamauri Attaud, for their four years of hard work and dedication to the men's basketball program.

Sacred Heart will close out the regular season on the road on Saturday at Central Connecticut State at 2:00 PM. The Pioneers are battling for final seeding for the Northeast Conference tournament.
