Of Note:
For the second straight game, the Pios got off to a good start, taking a 3-0 advantage in the first inning. With two on and two outs after a pair of walks,
Emily Carroll blasted a pitch to left field for a three-run homer.
The Blue Devils answered with two runs in the bottom of the first before evening the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the third. CCSU tallied two solo home runs on its way to tie the game.
SHU retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning on the first home run from Petrovich. Leading off the fifth, Petrovich blasted a ball over the center-field fence for her fourth homer of the season.
Unfortunately for the Pios, CCSU continued its seventh-inning success by tying the game at 4-4. However,
Emily Heath did not let the Blue Devils score the winning run, forcing extra innings for SHU for the first time this season.
In the eighth inning, Petrovich struck again by slamming a one-out home run to center to break a tie for the second time this afternoon. Today's game marked Petrovich's second career multi-homer outing, as she also hit two against Bryant on May 9, 2021.
Heath capped off her eight-inning victory, leaving one runner stranded in a clean eighth. The first year improved to 4-2 on the season and has won her last two starts.
