Men's Basketball Travels to Le Moyne on Monday

SHU will face the newest NEC member

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fresh off its home Northeast Conference victory over LIU on Saturday, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team will hit the road to take on NEC newcomer Le Moyne on Monday, January 15 at 7:00 pm.

LAST TIME OUT:
  • Sacred Heart had a dominating NEC win at home against LIU on Saturday, 89-55.   
  • Joey Reilly scored a season-high 23 points, leading five players in double figures in the victory. 
  • Kyle McGee (14), Aidan Carpenter (12), Nico Galette (11), and Alex Sobel (10) scored in double figures. 
  • Galette, McGee, and Brendan McGuire led the team in rebounds with six each, and McGuire dished out a game-high seven assists. Sobel had a game-high four blocks.
  • The Pioneers scored 44 points from the bench and shot 58.1% from the field. 
OPENING TIP:
  • Sacred Heart and Le Moyne will meet for the first time since 1996 when both programs were Division II. During the DII days, Le Moyne held an 8-2 record over SHU, dating back to 1981. This will be the first meeting between the two teams at the Division I level. 
  • Sacred Heart is 2-1 in Northeast Conference play with wins over Saint Francis and LIU at home and has its lone loss to Merrimack on the road.
  • Three active Pioneers are averaging in double figures: Nico Galette (14.9), Alex Sobel (11.9), and Joey Reilly (10.5). Sobel leads the team in rebounds (7.4), and Galette is second with 6.2 rpg.
  • Sobel is fourth in the nation in blocks with 49 (as of 1/14) and is fifth in blocks per game with 2.88.  
  • Galette and Tanner Thomas have brought in NEC Player of the Week awards for the Pioneers this season. Sobel has been a Prime Performer three times. 
  • Galette, Reilly, and Kyle McGee were voted captains for 2023-24.
  • SHU was selected first in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Galette and Reilly were selected to the All-NEC preseason team. Galette and Reilly earned All-NEC first and third-team honors last season, respectively.
