Men's Basketball Drops Road Game at Dartmouth

Anquan Hill led three Pioneers in double figures

Box Score HANOVER, N.H.— In its third and final opening week game, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball fell 81-76 on the road at Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon. Anquan Hill led the Pioneers in his debut for SHU with 20 points. Aidan Carpenter (13) and Fallou Gueye (12) also scored in double figures for the Pioneers.

Of Note: 
Sacred Heart quickly opened the game with an 8-2 run, including a pair of triples from Mekhi Conner. An Anquan Hill triple, his first as a Pioneer, put SHU ahead 16-10 at 13:59, but Dartmouth scored back-to-back jumpers to cut their deficit to two, 16-14. Amiri Stewart answered with a three-pointer to push the Pioneers ahead 19-14. The Big Green pulled within three, but a Griffin Barrouk trey pushed SHU ahead by six, 22-16 at 10:17. 

Dartmouth pulled within three two more times and the Pioneers them off until a three-pointer at 7:57 sparked a 12-0 run as the Big Green came from behind to take a 31-25 lead. A layup for Hill brought the Pioneers within four, 31-27, but Dartmouth answered with five straight to extend its lead to seven with 2:38 left in the half. 

The Big Green were able to jump ahead by eight, but a pair of free throws for Bryce Johnson cut the deficit to six with just over a minute remaining in the half. Dartmouth took advantage of the final minute and held a 42-32 lead at halftime. 

The Pioneers came out of halftime with energy, trying to inch their way back but, Dartmouth had an answer every time, maintaining a 10-point lead. A Stewart layup followed by a Hill steal and a make brought SHU within five, 57-52, but the Big Green scored the next five points to jump ahead by 10, again. Hill made another layup to cut the deficit to single digits but, Dartmouth went on a 7-0  run, giving the Big Green a double-digit lead that they would hold until the final 1:10 to play. 

Fallou Gueye came up huge, with five straight points to pull SHU within five, 78-73. Hill drained a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in the game to pull Sacred Heart within two, but Dartmouth made three free throws to end the game with the 81-76 final.

Hill shot an impressive 8-for-10 (80%) from the field and went 4-for-5 from behind the arc. While the Pioneers

Sacred Heart will be back in action on the road next weekend for a three-game tournament at Brown. The Pioneers will open with Holy Cross on Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:30 pm.
