ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team defeated Carnegie Mellon on Friday, 4-3.
In doubles play, the Pioneers swept winning all three matches.
Katsiaryna Starastsenka and
Kim Fenton secured No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 decision. At No. 2,
Flavia Rambaldi and
Vitalina Golod secured the point defeating the Tartans 6-2.
Ciara O'Toole and
Aina Garriga tabbed the 6-3 win at No. 3.
In singles play, the Pioneers and Tartans battled for the win. After dropping No. 2 singles,
Aina Garriga secured No. 5 singles winning in a 6-0, 6-3 decision. Starastsenka continues undefeated in singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1. After dropping No. 3 and No. 4, the Pioneers fate came down to O'Toole at No. 6 with a tied 3-3 match. O'Toole dropped the first set, won the second set in a tiebreaker, and then won the match with a 10-8 win in the third set with a super tiebreaker.
