PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Marcus Lim shot the lowest round in Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship history on Friday to highlight Sacred Heart University men's golf's opening day at the event, hosted at the Callaway Resort Gardens & Golf in Pine Mountain, Ga.
As a team, SHU sits in third place after round one, finishing with a combined score of even-par 288. The Pioneers sit five strokes off the pace set by day-one leaders Howard (283). LIU is in second after shooting a three-under 285.
Lim leads the individual standings after carding a record seven-under 65. The senior tallied six birdies and an eagle on the day, eagling the par-5 seventh hole. Lim paced the field in par-3 scoring, birding two of the par 3s and shooting par on the rest.
Pablo Lacayo is the next Pioneer on the leaderboard in T11th. The sophomore shot an even-par 70, finishing the day with six birdies.
Michael Rothberg and
Eoin Freeman ended day one, separated by a stroke in T21st and T25th, respectively. Rothberg tallied one birdie and posted a three-over 75, while Freeman carded a four-over 76 with three birdies.
SHU's final competitor this weekend is
Jason Pelley. The junior ended round one in T38th with a seven-over 79.
The Pioneers hit the Mountain View Course again tomorrow morning for round two.
