MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team sits in second place after the first two rounds of the SHU Fall Classic, hosted by the Pioneers at the Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn. on Monday.
The Pios tallied a team score of 573 (-3) to sit in second behind Rhode Island at 570 (-6). SHU posted a 284 (-4) in round one and a 289 (+1) in round two. The Pios lead Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Fairfield (+1) in third. Fellow MAAC programs Manhattan (T5th), Saint Peter's (11th) and Merrimack (13th) also competed. SHU's second team sits in 10th place at +40.
Pablo Lacayo leads the way for the Pios, one stroke off first place at 137 (-7). The senior opened the day in the lead with a five-under 67 before carding a two-under 70. He started the first round with an eagle on hole six and four consecutive birdies between holes 10-13. Lacayo finished with eight birdies.
Mike Rothberg and
Quin Adams placed next on the leaderboard in tie for seventh at even-par 144. Rothberg tallied two straight even-par rounds, while Adams answered a 74 with a stellar 70. Rothberg finished with five birdies, while Adams had seven.
Yu Chan Ji Lim finished one stroke behind his teammates at one-over 145. Just like Adams, Lim bounced back from an over-par opening round with an under-par mark, going 74 then 71.
Sho Suzuki,
Jon Bushka and
Ronan Mooney all ended the day within one stroke of each other. Suzuki is tied for 16th with a score of 148 (+4), while Bushka and Mooney are tied for 22nd at 149 (+5).
Luciano Moratinos (+10),
Alex Turlik (+13),
Charlie Gilligan (+14),
Robby Zyskowski III (+16),
Jack Delaney (+17) and
Leo Dixon (+22) round out SHU's 13 competitors at the event.
The Pios will start the third round tomorrow at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
