FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition in the final day of its tri-meet against Iona University and Wagner College on Saturday.
After day one, the Pioneers held a commanding 32-0 lead over both schools. SHU carried that momentum into the final events, defeating Wagner 151-86 and narrowly falling to Iona 126-111.
The meet featured several standout individual and relay performances. Ryleigh Mahoney swept the diving events, earning first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter on Friday night. Maddie Goret won the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:11.33, and later placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:25.67, moving her to fourth all-time in program history. Teammate Maggie Holland followed closely in the same event, finishing fourth with a time of 2:26.12, now fifth all-time at SHU.
Charlotte Kaduson earned second place in the 1000 freestyle, clocking a season-best 10:52.53. Sophia Velleco had a strong showing with a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:55.53) and a season-best 53.43 in the 100 freestyle. Abby Hernandez took third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:13.24, and Kaitlyn Schwarts placed second in the 200 backstroke with a season-best 2:11.19.
The Pioneers also saw success in the relays. The 400 medley relay team of Maddie Goret, Maggie Holland, Sophia Velleco, and Emma Davis finished third with a time of 3:59.00. In the 400 freestyle relay, Emma Davis, Laura DeGennaro, Brook Labarge, and Emma Haas combined for a third-place finish in 3:41.14.
Sacred Heart returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 12 p.m. when the Pioneers travel to face MAAC opponents Stonehill and Merrimack.
