BRIDGEPORT, CONN -The Sacred Heart Pioneers women's swimming and diving team competed in a split meet on Saturday in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Pioneers defeated the University of Bridgeport by a score of 227–63 but fell to Fairfield University 183–114.
Sacred Heart started the meet with the 200 SC meter medley relay. The team of Maddie Goret, Maggie Holland, Emma Haas, and Sophia Velleco placed second with a time of 2:01.80. Another Sacred Heart relay team finished third with a time of 2:03.13. That team included Kristen Baker, Daniella Palamaro, Abby Hernandez, and Emma Davis.
Maddie Goret placed second in the 50 SC meter backstroke with a time of 30.90. Daniella Palamaro finished third in the same event with a time of 35.70. In distance events, Izzy Torello placed third in the 800 SC meter freestyle with a time of 9:49.17. Maeve English also placed third in the 200 SC meter freestyle, finishing in 2:13.53.
Sophia Velleco had a strong day for the Pioneers. She placed second in the 100 SC meter butterfly with a time of 1:04.20 and won the 100 SC meter freestyle in 59.51. Emma Davis competed in the 50 SC meter freestyle and finished with a time of 27.67. Maggie Holland placed third in the 100 SC meter backstroke with a time of 1:18.10.
In the 400 SC meter freestyle, Charlotte Kaduson finished first with a time of 4:40.35. Laura DeGennaro placed third in the same event with a time of 4:47.19.
The diving team had a great meet. Ryleigh Mahoney won both diving events. She placed first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 281.18 and also won the 3-meter dive with a score of 303. Phifey Boyers finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 247.95. In the 3-meter dive, Sinclair Yadao placed second with 244.95 points, and Kara Leahy placed third with a score of 238.13.
With this meet, Sacred Heart tied the program record for the most wins in a season. The Pioneers will travel to Worcester to face Holy Cross and try to break the program record.
