NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University field hockey team closed out non-conference play on Sunday afternoon on the road with a 4-2 loss to Columbia.

How It Happened:
The Pioneers opened the scoring midway through the second quarter when Lizzie Mendrzycki redirected a penalty corner from Holly DeAngelo at the 18:44 mark to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 advantage. Columbia responded with two quick goals before halftime to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
The Lions pushed their margin to 4-1 with goals in the third and early in the fourth quarters.
Sacred Heart kept fighting, as Hailey Vogt buried a penalty stroke in the 54th minute to trim the deficit to two. Despite sustained pressure in the closing minutes, the Pioneers couldn't find another goal as Columbia held on for the win.
