WORCESTER, Mass. – Blue liners
John Driscoll and
Noah Ellis both scored goals for the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team but it proved not to be enough as the Pioneers suffered a 5-2 road loss against Holy Cross in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) on Thursday evening action at the Hart Center Rink in Worcester, Mass.
Records:
SHU: 3-3-0, 2-1-0 AHA
Holy Cross: 3-5-0, 3-1-0 AHA

How It Happened:
The Crusaders opened the evening's scoring 6:58 into the first period on a power play goal. Michael Abgrall snuck a puck by
Ajeet Gundarah, tipping a Timothy Heinke shot early in a power play.
Gundarah did his best to keep Holy Cross out of the goal again for the remainder of the period, finishing the first frame with 11 saves.
The Pioneers broke through the Crusaders' defense in the final minute of the first, tying the score at 1-1 after a Holy Cross turnover at 19:06. After stealing the puck in the corner,
Joshua Barnes sent a pass to
Jake Hewitt, who found
Mikey Adamson at the blue line. Adamson then sent a pass to his linemate, Driscoll, for a wrister from just inside the slot for his first goal of the season.
Holy Cross retook the lead at 10:15 after an odd-man rush off a faceoff. The Crusaders won the draw in SHU's zone, but a misplay by a Pioneer led to a 2-on-1 chance for Holy Cross. The first shot by Noah Eyre was saved, but the rebound fell to Abgrall for his second goal of the night.
Just like the first period, SHU tallied a goal late in the frame to tie the score. This time, the Pioneers cashed in on a power play chance.
Stephane Huard started the play by bringing the puck into the zone, drawing two defenders before finding a wide-open Ellis right at the crease for a tap-in goal. The score is Ellis' second of the season.
Holy Cross tallied two goals in the middle of the third period to take a commanding 4-2 lead. Eyre scored first at 7:47 before Mack Oliphant posted a power play goal at 10:14.
The Crusaders added an empty-net goal at 17:29 to ice a 5-2 home victory.
