FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team is set to host the No.5 Saints of Siena in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship Tournament. Kickoff is set for Sunday, November 2, at Park Ave Field for a 12:00 pm start.
Last Time Out
- When these two teams met earlier in the regular season, it was a tightly contested battle from start to finish.
- Siena held a slight edge in shots, 14–10 and generated more set-piece opportunities with five corner kicks to Sacred Heart's one.
- Despite being out shot, the Pioneers capitalized on their chances. In the 10th minute, Morgan Bovardi found the back of the net on a perfectly placed assist from Lindsay McShea.
- That early goal proved to be the difference, as Sacred Heart's defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the win.
- Goalkeeper Kyran Thievon was outstanding between the posts, turning aside every shot she faced to earn her second shutout of the season.
Oh Captain! My Captain
- Senior captain Morgan Bovardi put together one of the most impressive offensive seasons in Sacred Heart women's soccer history.
- She finished the year with 11 goals and two assists, totaling 24 points to lead the team.
- This season, Bovardi wrote her name into Sacred Heart history. She became the program's all-time leader in goals, breaking a record that had stood for over two decades.
- Just a few games later, she added another milestone, surpassing her former teammate Grace O'Hara to become the program's all-time points leader
- Bovardi comes into this matchup with 30 career goals and will look to add on to her total this postseason.
Between the Pipes
- Kyran Thievon has been a steady force in goal for the Pioneers this season.
- Through 18 starts, she has faced 188 shots, recording 74 saves and posting an impressive .97 goals-against average.
- Thievon holds a 9-6-1 record and has registered six shutouts, showcasing her reliability and composure between the posts throughout the year.
On Siena
- After ending the season on a four-game winning streak, No. 5 Siena owns an overall record of 9-4-6 and a 6-3-3 conference record. The Saints ended the season on four straight shutouts and outscored their opponents 13-0.
- Throughout the year, Siena scored a total of 27 goals compared to its opponents' 13.
- The Saints also had a total of 244 shots compared to their opponents' 224, and earned 90 corners compared to their opponents' 75.
- Siena had tremendous goalie play all year long, which led to a total of eight shutouts.
- Sophomore midfielder Catherine Rogers led the Saints in points. She scored seven goals, assisted on five, and ended up with 19 total points. Rogers also led the team with 58 shots, with 26 of them being on goal.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Cate Burns had an outstanding season for the Saints. She recorded a total of 74 saves while maintaining an impressive 0.65 goals-against average. Burns also posted eight shutouts across the season.

- This Sunday marks the sixth meeting between the Pioneers and Saints.
- Sacred Heart holds an all-time record of 3-0-2 in the series and most recently earned a 1-0 victory earlier this season.
