Washington, D.C. – Senior guard Amelia Wood finished with a team-high 14 points to lead the Sacred Heart women's basketball team as they dropped a 77-44 road decision against the Big East's Georgetown Hoyas.

FIRST QUARTER NOTES

·       After an empty possession for both teams out of the gates, the Hoyas struck first with a three pointer 52 seconds in and added two free throws for an early 5-2 lead.

·       Kirby would get the Pioneers on the board just over 90 seconds into the contest with a layup.

·       The first three of the evening for SHU came with just over five minutes on the clock as Dudley drained the long range bucket to make it a one-point game, 8-7.

·       After Kirby converted a layup before the media timeout, the Hoyas came out of that first break to end the quarter on an 11-0 run, taking a 22-9 lead into the quarter break.

SECOND QUARTER NOTES

·       Sacred Heart would be the first two score in the second quarter with Jordanna Schrecker driving the left side of the lane for a layup on the Pioneers opening possession.

·       The Hoyas would continue to keep the pressure on, extending their lead to 37-13.

·       After going more than four minutes without a field goal, Wood broke the drought with a three pointer to make it 37-18 with under four minutes remaining.

·       The Hoyas would go on to score seven of the final nine points of the half to take a 44-20 lead into the locker room at the break.

THIRD QUARTER NOTES

·       After surrendering the first two baskets to the Hoyas, the Pioneers opened up the second half with a three pointer from John.

·       Just prior to the halfway point of the quarter, SHU rattled off six-straight, the last of which came on a steal and fast break bucket from Wood which forced a Georgetown timeout. Wood also opened the six point stretch with a fall-away jumper.

·       The Pioneers muster just two more points in the quarter as Georgetown extended its lead out to 57-31 at the final intermission.

FOURTH QUARTER NOTES

·       Coming out of that final break, the Pioneers would rattle off back-to-back baskets with layups from Wood and Esther Kursite, the second of which was a put-back attempt as SHU finished the game with an 11-7 lead in second chance opportunities.

·       Georgetown would build its lead out to 68-38 before another burst from the Pioneers, this time a 5-0 stretch that resulted in a 68-43 Hoyas lead.

·       Crespo Lopez opened up that run with an old fashioned three point play as she was fouled on a layup, while Wood added the final two points at the free throw line coming out of the media timeout.
