MILFORD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University Women's Swimming and Diving team delivered an outstanding performance today in their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) matches at home, securing victories over Saint Peter's and Merrimack, as well as non-conference competitor Bridgeport. The dominant showing across all events led to a significant milestone for the program: Head Coach John Spadafina earned his 60th career win as Head Coach.
Sinclair Yadao claimed first place in the 1m dive with a score of 266.48. This mark qualified her for NCAA Zones for the second consecutive year. Kara Leahy had a score of 254.93, a performance that places her fifth on the program's all-time list for the event.
On the day, Sophia Velleco had three victories, including the setting of a new pool record. She won the 100 Fly in 58.09, etching her name in the facility record books. Velleco also took first in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:54.74, narrowly missing another pool record. She was a part of a victorious 200 medley relay alongside Kristen Baker, Maggie Holland, and Emma Haas, which won in 1:48.48, a time just off yet another pool record.
Maddie Goret swept her individual events, winning the 200 backstroke in 2:09.52 and the 200 IM in 2:13.72. Maggie Holland achieved two wins by taking first in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.91) and swimming a key leg on the winning 200 medley relay. Haas and Baker, who each swam on both the winning 200 medley relay and the victorious 200 free relay (1:41.81) alongside Emma Davis and Maeve English.
Meredith Lubelczyk secured her first collegiate win by dominating the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:33.40. Abby Hernandez posted a solid effort to win the 200 fly in 2:12.93, and Charlotte Kaduson led the distance swimmers with a first-place finish in the 500 free (5:19.56).
The Pios return back to action on December 5th when the swimmers will compete at the Gompei Invitational hosted by WPI in Worcester, Mass. The divers will go to the ECAC Winter Championships in Longmeadow, N.Y.
