Pios Dominate the Gompei with a First Place Finish

WORCESTER, MASS — The Sacred Heart women's swimming and diving team concluded the Gompei Invitational as meet champions, producing a strong and consistent day three performance that featured event victories, program record-book additions, and a decisive overall point total.

Charlotte Kaduson led the distance group with a first-place finish in the 1650 Freestyle. Emma Davis contributed a third-place result in the 100 Free, while Maddie Goret added a third-place finish in the 200 Back and later moved to fifth all-time in program history in the event with a time of 2:06.92.

Sacred Heart continued to excel in the butterfly events. Sophia Velleco secured first place in the 200 Fly, followed by Abby Hernandez in second. Velleco also delivered one of the top performances of the meet with a 52.00 in the 100 Free, advancing to third all-time in the SHU record book.

In the breaststroke events, Maggie Holland earned a first-place finish in the 50 Breast. The session concluded with a first-place performance in the 400 Freestyle Relay, as Velleco, Brooke Labarge, Holland, and Davis combined for a strong closing swim.

At the conclusion of the competition, Sacred Heart finished first on the women's side with 3450.5 points and placed fourth overall despite not having a men's team.

The Pioneers will next compete on December 13 in the Sunshine State at the CSCAA National Open Water Championships.
