Moulton Scores Career-High to Lead Pioneers in Win Over Merrimack

SHU defeated Merrimack in the teams first meeting in the MAAC

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.— Will Moulton scored a career-high five goals to lead the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team to a 13-8 road victory over Merrimack in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers picked up their second conference win as 10 different players tallied a point.

Sacred Heart: 5-2, (2-1 MAAC) 
Merrimack: 1-7, (0-3 MAAC)

John Murray: 2 goals, 2 assists (4 points)

Of Note:
Sacred Heart scored the first goal of the game and never looked back, taking a 4-2 advantage after the first quarter of play. Highlighted by four different goal scorers including John Murray, Tucker Spencer, Declan Wilkie, and Will Moulton's first of the day.

Sacred Heart had a dominant second quarter, scoring five straight goals, including Murray's second of the day and a pair from Moulton for a 9-3 lead. The Warriors added one to cut their deficit to 9-4 heading into halftime. 

Tim Kiely got the scoring going in the third, pushing the Pioneers ahead by six but the teams traded goals until the final 29 seconds of play in the frame, Merrimack scored twice to pull within four, 11-7.  

Moulton put away his fifth of the day to open the final quarter, taking a 12-7 lead at 12:01. At 6:00, Merrimack scored its final goal of the day to pull within four, but Spencer put the game away for the 13-8 final. 

Nicky Casano went 9-16 from the faceoff x, collecting two ground balls. Graduate goalkeeper Alex Pazienza backstopped the Pioneers with 13 saves in the win, his seventh game of the season with double-figure saves.
