How It Happened:
Despite trailing the Bobcats 3-0, Araneo broke the scoreless streak at 4:56, scoring a goal that narrowed the deficit to two. The Pioneers then struck again, with Farace scoring her first goal of the day, bringing the game within one at 3-2. However, the Bobcats controlled the final 3:30 of the period, outscoring the visitors 3-0 to restore a four-goal advantage heading into the second.
The next frame opened with Araneo tallying her second goal of the day at 11:22, cutting the deficit to 6-3. The Bobcats, however, responded less than two minutes later, restoring their four-goal advantage at 7-3.
The Pioneers continued to press on offense, with Lively capitalizing twice—first on a woman-up opportunity and then on a free-position attempt—bringing the hosts within two at 7-5 with 7:01 left in the period. Both teams then settled into a defensive battle until the final 2:04 of the second, when Farace and Insinga found the back of the net, tying the game at 7-7 heading into halftime.
Sacred Heart dominated the next 15 minutes, with Araneo netting all three of the visitors' goals while the defense, led by Martin, held the Bobcats to a single tally. The strong effort gave the Pioneers a 10-8 lead heading into the fourth.
The Pioneers' scoring run carried into the final period, with Tanner netting back-to-back goals less than a minute apart to extend the lead to 12-8 with 12:38 left to play. Quinnipiac continued to battle, cutting the deficit to two on multiple occasions. However, clutch fourth-quarter goals from Tanner, Araneo, and Insinga, along with solid defensive play, secured the road win and kept the Pioneers undefeated in MAAC play.
Up Next:
The Pioneers hit the road once again. This time, they travel to Buffalo, NY, for a MAAC showdown with Canisius on Wednesday, April 2, at 4 PM.
