How It Happened:
Sacred Heart opened the game strong with the first goal from Maggie Araneo just over a minute in. Quinnipiac then quickly answered with a goal from Mia Delmond, but the Pioneers regained the lead with a goal by Shae Insinga.
The first period was a whirlwind of back-and-forth scoring, with goals by Jamie Tanner and Erin Herrold. Insinga wrapped up the quarter with a woman-up free position goal, giving Sacred Heart a 6-5 lead in a game filled with intense moments.
Quinnipiac regained offensive momentum in the second period, outscoring the Pioneers by a 7-3 margin to take an 11-8 lead at halftime. Insinga struck first in the frame for SHU and completed the first-half hat trick, while Ellie Edwards added a free position goal, and Tanner scored on a woman-up opportunity.
The third period saw Sacred Heart try to chip away at the lead with a goal from Herrold, assisted by Araneo, but Quinnipiac remained steady with back-to-back goals from EllaGrace Delmond and Mia Delmond, increasing their lead to four, 13-9, heading into the final period.
Sacred Heart didn't give up in the fourth, making a strong push to reduce Quinnipiac's lead to two, 13-11, with a man-up goal from Aidan Carlson at 14:32 and an unassisted tally from Jenna Lively at 9:19.
However, the Bobcats' offense proved to be too much for the Pioneers as they sealed the first-round victory with three unanswered goals over the final 7:47 to advance to the second round of the MAAC Tournament.
