How it Happened
The Pioneers wasted no time putting runs on the board. In the bottom of the first, Alex Ungar set the tone with a leadoff single up the middle. With runners on the corners, Tim McGuire brought him home on a fielder's choice. After stealing second, Dante D'Amore singled through the right side to score McGuire. Then Peter Link followed with another base hit to the same spot, bringing in D'Amore for a quick 3-0 SHU lead.

Quinnipiac answered in the third with a sacrifice fly to trim the lead to 3-1 and then took a brief lead in the fifth after stringing together three hits, a walk, and a fielder's choice to go up 4-3.

But the Pios weren't done.

In the seventh, Alex Ungar came through again, ripping a triple to plate JW Fitzgerald and tie the game. Gavin Donohue followed with a clutch double down the left field line to bring Ungar home. Then things got wild when McGuire dropped down a sacrifice bunt and reached safely on a throwing error, eventually making it to third and scoring Donohue in the process. SHU retook the lead, 6-4.

Mitch Hawkins took care of business on the mound in the eighth, shutting down the Bobcats to keep momentum on SHU's side.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Pioneers tacked on two big insurance runs. Ungar drove in Joe Cilea with a sac fly, and G. Donohue added another RBI single to score Fitzgerald, making it 8-4.

Hawkins closed the door in the ninth, freezing the final batter with a strikeout looking to seal the win.
