Pioneers Wrap Up Outdoor Season at IC4A/ECAC

FAIRFAX, VA. — The season finale came as the Pioneers returned to George Mason University to compete at the IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Pioneers would post multiple top finishes against the best the East Coast has to offer. The highlights of the weekend came as four program records were set. Grace Sousa claimed the 3000m record, Sierra Thompson claimed the 200m dash record, and Magdelena Brogioli grabbed both the 100m dash and 100m hurdles records.

In the throwing circle, Kristopher Chambers (5th, 53.79m) and Joshua Wood (8th, 53.15m) had great days in the men's hammer throw. Aidan Glennon capped off his season by throwing 15.27m in the men's shot put, finishing in sixth place. 

More Pios threw far this weekend, Elena Chaplin (6th, 12.56m) and Ariyana Jackson (8th, 12.41) showed out in the women's shot put. A pair of throwers in women's javelin would also finish in sixth and eighth. Kaitlyn Luba threw 38.94m (6th) and Marisa Imme threw 38.21m (8th).

Sousa and Thompson continued their success throughout the weekend and claimed more top finishes. Sousa would also finish in eighth in the women's 1500m, coming in at 4:33.83. Thompson joined Brogioli in the 100m hurdles final and finished her race in 14.62, good for seventh. Thompson also came in fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.80m. Senior Erin Lavelle was close behind in eighth after jumping 5.73m. In the high jump, Lauryn Piccirelli finished in fourth after clearing 1.64m.

The Pioneers' relay teams had success as well as the men's 4x800m relay team of Dylan Peterson, Jordan Leon, Lance Hayes, and Jacob Strain completed their race in fifth at exactly 7:45.00. The women's 4x400m relay team claimed bronze as Ava Srinivasan, Tori Chorzepa, Lea Bourgeois, and Olivia Suter finishing in 4:04.38.
