Women's Soccer Opens the Season With a 0-0 Draw

Kyran Thievon records her sixth career shutout

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team opened the 2025 season on Sunday afternoon at Park Ave Field with a 0-0 tie against non-conference opponent, the University of Vermont.

Records:

Sacred Heart (0-0-1)

Vermont (0-0-2)

Top Performers:

Shea Kelleher - 3 shots, 2 shots on goal

Lindsay McShea - 3 shots, 2 shots on goal

Morgan Bovardi - 3 shots, 2 shots on goal

Between the Pipes:

SHU: Kyran Thievon (T, 0-0-1) - 0 goals-against | 4 saves

VER: Kylee Carafoli - 0 goals-against | 7 saves

How it Happened:

The first half saw SHU and Vermont battle offensively for the ball with the Catamounts holding an 8-6 edge in shot attempts, but the visitors were unsuccessful in finding the back of the net against  Thievon.

Two of Kelleher's three shot attempts came in the first half.

Sacred Heart came out of the halftime break with a little more pep in their step as Morgan Bovardi and Lindsay McShea tested Vermont's Carafoli with back-to-back shot attempts less than a minute apart.

The final 10 minutes of play saw Rylee McGee and Bovardi try to break the scoreless tie with shot attempts in the right center of the net, but great goalkeeping skills kept the Pioneers from finding the back of the net.

Defensively, the Pioneers kept the Catamounts off balance as the visitor's offense was unable to get a shot on goal for the final 45 minutes.

Of Note:

Keeper Kyran Thievon kicked off her junior campaign with her first shutout of the season, sixth of her career.

As a team, the Pioneers managed seven shots on goal and also held the advantage with eight corner kicks to the Catamounts three.
