Women's Volleyball Challenges CCSU in Midweek Clash

SHU meets its former conference foe at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in New Britain, Conn.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's volleyball team hits the road on Wednesday, Sept. 16, for its first non-tournament match of the season for a 6 p.m. tilt at Central Connecticut State in New Britain, Conn.

After capping the Steel Classic Tournament, hosted by Lehigh, with a four-set win over NJIT this weekend, Miliani Villarreal and Ava Roodbol both won Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards. Villarreal was named the Libero of the Week for an outstanding 10th time in her first 40 collegiate matches. The Murrieta, Calif., native led the Pios with 4.09 digs and 0.64 aces per set at the event, tallying 19 digs and a career-high five aces against NJIT. Roodbol earned Setter of the Week honors for the second time this year after averaging 9.64 assists per set over the three matches. The junior from Toronto, Canada, capped the weekend with 45 assists on the team's 65 kills in the victory over the Highlanders.

SCOUTING CCSU
  • Central is 1-8 heading into Wednesday's bout, owning a sweep of Holy Cross as its lone win of the season. 
  • The Blue Devils have met MAAC foes Iona and Merrimack, falling to the Gaels, 3-0, and the Warriors, 3-2. 
  • CCSU has been busy on both side of the ball this season, ranking first in the NEC in team attacks (37.06) and digs per set (14.00). 
  • Sophomore opposite Olivia Keckler paces the attack with 3.84 kills on 11.71 attacks per set. 
  • Defensively, junior setter Anja Milosevic leads the team with 3.13 digs per set.
