Pioneers Welcome Marist to Pitt Center on Friday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Sacred Heart University men's basketball team returns to the Pitt Center for its first home game of 2026 on Friday, Jan. 9, hosting Marist at 7 p.m.

OPENING TIP
  • Sacred Heart and Marist meet for the 15th time overall, but just the second in the programs' Division I eras. The Pioneers hold a 13–1 advantage in the all-time series and defeated the Red Foxes in their first MAAC meeting last season.
  • SHU enters the matchup following an 82–78 road loss at Canisius on Sunday, while Marist is coming off a dominant 83–38 win over Iona.

  • Marist is 3-2 in MAAC play so far. They have defeated Mount, Manhattan, and Iona but have lost to Saint Peter's and Quinnipiac.
  • Elijah Lewis (13.1), Rhyjon Blackwell (12.9), and Justin Menard (10.1) are averaging double figures for Marist.
  • Marist was selected fifth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Sacred Heart saw a strong first-half effort slip away in the second half, falling 82–78 to Canisius on Sunday afternoon.
  • Farell led four Pioneers in double figures with a season-high 22 points. Gittens (15), Slaughter (11), and Yadd (10) all contributed with double-figure performances.
  • Sacred Heart led for the majority of the contest and carried a 41–34 advantage into halftime, but Canisius outscored the Pioneers 48–37 after the break to secure the victory.
