Alyson Kornberg joined the Sacred heart Athletics department in August of 2022 and oversees all aspects of sports performance for Women’s Volleyball, Field Hockey and Women’s Lacrosse, and assists with the Women’s Ice Hockey program. Since she began her work at SHU, she has had a positive impact on the growth of the programs she works with, including Field Hockey’s first NCAA tournament appearance in program history and NEC conference championship since 2005.
Previously Kornberg was an Assistant Athletic Performance Coach at Stony Brook University where she played a pivotal role in assisting with all aspects of football performance training, taking charge of Return to Play (RTP) protocols. Her responsibilities extended to designing and implementing performance training programs for men's basketball and women's lacrosse, utilizing cutting-edge technologies such as the Hawkins Dynamics force plate system, Vald Nordboard, and Kinexon and VXSport GPS tracking systems.
Prior to her role at Stony Brook, Kornberg served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Youngstown State University. Here, she took the lead in developing training programs for women's lacrosse and throwers and football RTP. She introduced innovative metabolic training for lacrosse and integrated aquatic plyometrics into regeneration sessions, showcasing her commitment to staying ahead of evolving sports demands.
Kornberg earned a master’s degree in Sport Administration from Tusculum University, where she served as a Graduate Assistant for a year. Part way through the year she took on the role as Interim Head Coach for Strength & Conditioning. Kornberg led the department overseeing more than 500 student athletes across 20 sports. Under her guidance, the football team secured a conference championship, breaking a 13-year losing streak. Her administrative duties included working closely with athletic directors, serving as a student intern coordinator, and managing athlete nutrition stations.
Kornberg’s experience also extends to multiple strength & conditioning internships at Stony Brook University, Carnegie Mellon University, and The University of Pittsburgh.
Kornberg holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Additionally, Alyson possesses certifications in USA Weightlifting Level 2, Sparta Science Level 1, and is first aid/CPR/AED certified.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Alyson has a personal athletic background in football, wrestling, and lacrosse. She was the founding president of the club football team at The University of Pittsburgh playing at the linebacker and running back positions during her undergraduate years.
