Pioneers' Rally Falls Short Versus Marist, 38-27

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - Alfredo Riullano and Chris Price both ran for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns as Marist beat Sacret Heart 38-27 on Saturday night.

On defense, the Rex Foxes (1-0) limited the Pioneers (0-1) to -14 yards rushing for the game and 171 yards of total offense.

Sacred Heart, defending I-AA Mid-Major national champion, blocked a punt that Pioneer Dan Atcherson recovered and carried for a touchdown late in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Riullano scored on a one-yard run, and Marist's Kevin Bielen hit Jason Hooper with an 18-yard pass for a 14-7 lead.

Brett Biggs kicked a field goal in the third quarter, followed by a six-yard touchdown run by Price and 24-7 Marist lead.

Riullano, who finished with 124 yards on 17 carries, scored again at the start of the fourth quarter on an 18-yard run. Price, who ran 166 yards on 25 carries, got his second touchdown almost five minutes later on a 27-yard run.

Sacred Heart rallied in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Joe Kroells threw three touchdown passes, hitting Marlon Ward for 32 yards and 17 yards, and Andy Gonzalez for 2 yards.
