Pioneers Host UMass in Season Opener

The Storyline... The Sacred Heart women's basketball team tips-off the 2003-04 season hosting the University of Massachusetts Friday evening. The Pioneers usher in a new era with the addition of eight new players to this year's team. Combined with the leadership of senior's Ashley Kohl, Kate Maher and Shannon Quinlivan and the return of last year's NEC Rookie of the Year Nicolle Rubino, the Pioneers aren't in a rebuilding mode but looking to reload as they begin the hunt for their first conference title. Sacred Heart will also benefit from the return of point guard Allie Bagnell, who missed much of last season with a knee injury. Juniors Colleen Duggan and Colleen White also return to bolster a front court that needs to replace the loss of graduates Brooke Kelly and Brooke Rutnik. The Minutewomen will also bolster a host of new faces as they look to replace seven seniors and 85 percent of their scoring from last year. UMass does return guards Cleo Foster, Katie Nelson and Judit Zsedenyi to the back court this season.
