Amanda Pape Named Choice Hotels NEC Basketball Rookie of the Week

FAIRFIELD, CT (December 8, 2003) - Sacred Heart University women's basketball player Amanda Pape (Stamford, CT) was named Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of December 1st through 7th.
The Stamford, CT native wins back-to-back Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week honors by averaging 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 4.5 steals in two wins this past week. The freshman also shot a combined .588 (10-17) from the field and .928 (13-14) from the charity stripe. Pape collected 28 points, nine boards, three assists and six steals to guide the Pioneers to a 79-68 win over intra-state rival Yale on Wednesday evening. She shot 8-12 from the field, 1-2 from three-point range and 11-12 from the line. In SHU's convincing 71-47 win over Princeton on Saturday, Pape played 23 minutes and added six points, three rebounds and three steals. Remarkably, the rookie is leading the Pioneers in scoring (16.7 ppg), field-goal percentage (55.7%) and steals (3.5 spg) this season.
Pape and the Pioneers return to action this Saturday, December 13th when they travel to Staten Island, NY to open the Northeast Conference portion of their schedule against Wagner College at 4 pm.
