NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Pete Athans set a school record with a 76-yard
punt return and cemented Sacred Heart's win in the fourth quarter against
Central Connecticut Saturday.
Sacred Heart scored the first 10 points of the game, capitalizing on Central
Connecticut turnovers.
In the third quarter, Blue Devils quarterback Scott Dolch responded by
throwing a 28-yard touchdown pass to Akeen Watson, then followed with a 17-yard
touchdown pass to tight end Mike Malone.
Leading 17-13 going into the fourth quarter, Central Connecticut wasn't able
to stop 14 points by the Pioneers.
Ed Priocolo rushed in from the 1-yard line to give the Pioneers the lead for
good with 11:33 left, capping a seven-play, 60-yard drive. Athans had the
76-yard punt return for a touchdown with 5:16 left.
Sacred Heart improves to 3-0 on the season and 2-0 in the Northeast
Conference, and Central Connecticut falls to 0-4 on the season and 0-2 in
conference play.
