FAIRFIELD, CT (December 6, 2004) - Sophomore women's basketball player Kerri Burke (Saugus, MA) was named the Sacred Heart University Athlete of the Week for the week of November 29th through the December 5th.
The sophomore point guard put up career numbers last week to lead the Pioneers to back to back wins over Rider and Mount St. Mary's. Burke went out and topped that performance in the first half alone to give SHU an 84-66 win over the Mount in the NEC opener for both teams. The Saugus, MA native buried six-of-11 from the floor, including three-of-seven from three, in the first half to match her career-high 15. She kept the points coming over the final 20 minutes of play, shooting six-of-eight from the charity stripe with another bucket to end the game with 23 points. She also picked up two steals and two assists all while playing a team-high 39 minutes. Burke is currently second on the team in scoring at 14.0 points per game while shooting a team-best 52.9% (9-17) from three point range.
